    This French 18th century tan-coloured leather topped wooden bench measuring 56cm in length 46cm in hight and 23cm in width has very unusual painted symbols on the tan leather.

     
    These symbols appear to depict aristocratic initials YB and possibly armorial ancestral makings such as a black coloured ace of spades, a red coloured heart, a black coloured club and a red coloured diamond.
     
    At the time of the French revolution assorted items of furniture belonging to aristocratic families were either stolen or destroyed by the revolutionists. At some stage, between the period of the revolution someone had unsuccessfully attempted to partially remove these symbols from the tan-coloured leathered top of this bench
     
    What might be today construed as being 300 hundred old
    vandalisms in attempting to remove the initials and armorial makings from the tan-coloured leather it has not however damaged the leather nor ruined the exquisite charm. These symbols are still very visible and certainly add character and intrigue making this bench very unusual and probably one of a kind and an excellent taking point to own and in good condition and near impossible to find another one, i think!
