By Arthur Wardle (1864 - 1949) Oil on Canvas 15" H X 23" W. Signed L.R. 1905
V.G.O.
The artist is better known as a brilliant portrayer of animals, but as this picture shows, could turm his hand to landscapes just as well. Exhibited R.A.,S.S., N.W.S. & elsewhere.
Lady Acland's Path leads upward to where a stag & 3 hinds regard the artist with suspicion. Dunkery Beacon can be seen on left, and through the broken white clouds, sunlight catches the hillsides in places. Bracken, gorse & heather bloom in the foreground. The view is above Honeywell & North Quarme.
