18th Century Temple of Solomon Circa. 1723 Germany In the late 1600's, Gerhard Schott (1641-1703) a founder of the Hamburg Opera, built a huge model of King Solomon's temple for Christian Heinrich Postel's opera concerning the Temple's destruction. The model was displayed throughout the Continent, first in Hamburg, and later in London. This model is currently in the Hamburg City Museum. In Circa. 1723 this souvenir print of the elevation of the Temple of Solomon was created. It is ornamented with the most interesting colored passages in the lives of King David and Solomon, his son. Hand drawn and colored on vellum. The frame measures 41 1/2 inches high x 57 inches wide. The work itself measures 24 inches high x 41 inches wide. The edges are somewhat frayed and the vellum shows wear. The colors are still wonderful, especially for a print that is over 300 years old. Custom framed with elaborate matte under glass. To our knowledge, there is only one other in the Henry W. Coil Museum & Library - located in San Francisco. For the serious collector. In very good condition
