Antique 18-Inch Victorian Mourning Necklace With French Jet, Pinchbeck and Gold Plated Chain Circa. 1850-1860 United Kingdom Mourning necklace from the Victorian era French jet (black glass) faceted beads set in pinchbeck The chain is gold plated and is a new replacement All the beads are original, including those set on the chain. The necklace is 18 inches long The square pendant with drop measures 1 1/2 inches in height x 1 inch in width Total weight for the necklace is a comfortable 9.4 g. 6.6 dwt Pinchbeck is a metal alloy composed of copper and zinc. It greatly resembles gold and was used extensively during the 19th and 18th centuries in the production of jewelry Invented by Christopher Pinchbeck (1670-1732) In pristine condition
