    Antique Animalier Bronze

    After Pierre Jules Mene 1810 - 1871.
    "Vainquer du Derby" 1863. 16" H X 16" W. On bronze naturalistic base. Signed P.J.MENE
Mene was probably the most successful sculptor of his time. This is a beautiful example of this well -known model in perfect order and good colour. The horse could be either Caractacus, winner 1862, or Macaroni 1863. Before the race - the jockey nicely relaxed but the horse keen to go - not surprising that he won!
