We have for sale this very fine pre-Raphaelite oil on canvas portrait of a young lady. This original piece was painted by William Salter Herrick (1807-1891) in the mid to late 19th century. During this time the artist was exhibiting at the Royal Academy and the British Institution.
Other pieces by the artist are held at institutions around Britain including the following portraits which are held by Oxford University:
This portrait is typical of the pre-Raphaelite movement and is, as I'm sure you'll agree, utterly captivating. The painting is housed in a good quality frame which measures approximately 51cm x 57cm. The canvas measures approximately 40cm x 44cm.
This piece is in relatively good condition for its age having been professionally restored by F J Harris & Son of Bath in 1991. As the photos illustrate, there is no major damage. The canvas has been sealed, most noticeably on the verso and towards the bottom of the picture but, as the photos illustrate, this does not detract in any way from this stunning piece.
Why buy from The Auburn Hare Gallery?
Our aim is to provide our customers with absolute confidence when buying from us. We fully appreciate that buying a painting online is quite different to buying in person. We therefore aim to mention everything known about a work and include detailed photographs of each area of the painting and provenance when known.
Of course you are very welcome to come and view any painting in person or discuss any questions with us concerning a painting prior to purchase. If you wish to send us a question online we will reply as quickly and promptly as we possibly can. You are of course also welcome to come and collect your purchase in person.
Our paintings are carefully selected based on their quality, age and condition and we only sell original period/antique paintings. We source our stock from auctions, estate sales and private collections throughout Britain and the continent.
