We find the theme of washerwomen recurrently throughout the nineteenth and even eighteenth century party. However, it has evolved much the same time as the painting is made more realistic to better participate in the debate and better reflect the drudgery of manual labor. Washerwomen, laundresses, Gleaners ... men too ....
