This is Tantric art, a name scholars give to an inter-religious spiritual movement that arose in medieval India in the fifth century. It is a complex Hindu mythological depiction of deities and also consists of a complex symbolic cosmology of signs. The painting represents a human figure of normal build but the height that it gains is in the form of mounting squares, which in Tantra denote spatial regions, and thereby the figure’s cosmic magnification. Various forms, human, animal and vegetation symbolize the presence of life in concerned regions.
