Antique Pair Bronze Stags Signed Moigniez Stag Moose Elk

You are viewing a gorgeous pair of French bronze stags which are signed by Moigniez on the base (please see close up photo). The pair have been cast from the finest dark brown bronze which has a lovely nutty brown patina. They would make for a great decorative item for your home and are offered in very good condition.

You can just imagine this creature emerging from a misty wood in the Scottish Highlands such is the quality of this sculpture. The stag is depicted standing on a rocky outcrop, Moigniez has really caught the beauty and poise of the beast with great skill.

Moigniez (1835-94) was born in Senlis, France and was reknowned for his powerful renditions of animals. These are a later recasting from the original.

Being bronze this will last forever without rusting and hence is a great investment as it will always appreciate in value. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing and nice to look at they can also become heirlooms.

Bronze is any of several alloys consisting mainly of copper and tin. Neither ancient nor modern bronzes consist only of these two metals. Zinc, lead, and silver were added to bronze alloys by Greek and Roman founders for use in tools, weapons, coins, and objects of art. Zinc, lead, and other metals are occasionally present in modern bronze.
