ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marine and coastal painter from the North East, brother to the more well-known Charles Napier Hemy. Studied at the School of art in Newcastle and first practiced as a professional artist in North Shields in the period 1875-1877, sending his first works for exhibition to the Suffolk Street and Dudley Galleries, London. Exhibited at the Central Exchange art Gallery (Newcastle) Berwick Club (Newcastle), Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool) and elsewhere.
Today his paintings are held by the Laing Art Gallery and other art galleries in Sunderland, South Shields and Bootle with 20 of his works forming part of the National Collection.
