For sale is a fine and rare large Victorian rosewood screen, having an ornately carved top, above embroidery, depicting a dog jumping up at a parrot on a perch, with two other small birds on the perch beside it another dog lies on the base of the perch, on the left, holding a feather in its mouth, its paw on a sealed letter after Landseer. 1851. The parrots stand and chain are all in bead work. A print of this picture is owned by the British museum and has the following inscription: Inscription type: inscription
Inscription content: Lettered below the image with the title, around a crest, and dedication 'by Royal Command', of the 'Engraving from the Picture painted in 1839', from the publisher to the Queen, and 'Painted by Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. // Engraved by W.T. Davey. // Printed by J. Brooker // London, Published May 24th, 1851, by Thomas Mc.Lean, 26, Haymarket, Paris, Goupil & Vibert, 15, Boulevart [sic] Montmartre, Deposé'.
    Mixed method.

The screen stands on ornately carved feet and is in excellent condition for its age. The previous owners of the screen claim that this piece was purchased from a private collection near Balmoral. We believe this piece may have been made for The Great Exhibition of 1851.
