10 1/2" H X 21" W in attractive gilt frame wth washline mount in Gallery Condition.
Whymper 1813-1903, was born at Ipswich & died at Haslemere. A self taught wood engraver, he learned w/c from Collingwood Smith & was praised by Ruskin He exhibited N.W.C.S. & was father of the famous Alpinist.
On a summers day, two tree fellers take a well earned rest by the trunk of a large tree. The hillside drops awayto reveal a group of buildings, some ruined, on the next ridge. Blue hills in the distance. A shower seems possible.
