James Burrell Smith (1822-1897) - Original Mid 19th Century Watercolour.

Smith was born in the south of England but lived in the north, in Alnwick, Northumberland, from 1843 to 1854 and painted in both watercolour and oil. Smith studied with the Newcastle master Thomas Miles Richardson, Sr. (1784-1848) and in 1854 moved to London, where he set up as a drawing master and built up an extensive teaching practice, concentrating on watercolour painting. Smith exhibited work at Suffolk Street London 1850 to 1881 and painted landscapes in Northumberland, the Lake District, Scotland, Wales and Germany
