    Antique JENNENS & BETTRIDGE TEA CADDY

    Papier Mache Tea Caddy made by the famous Jennens & Betteridge, very unusual clover leaf shape simply decorated with gold leaf and mother of pearl.

     

    The interior of the Jennens & Betteridge tea caddy has two papier mache lids with mother of pearl handles, both compartments have most of their original tin foil linings and to the front it has its original cut glass mixing bowl.
     

    The base bares the famous stamp from the papier mache manufacturers "Jennens & Betteridge" with a Crown above, it reads:
     

    Jennens & Bettridge Makers to the Queen
     

    This wonderful tea caddy comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
     

    Jennens & Bettridge made have made many items for Queen Victoria and they exhibited at the Great Exhibition Crystal Palace 1851 in London. Their stand at the Exhibition included a tea caddy.
     

    The Jennens & Betteridge firm were highly regarded for producing Papier Mache Wares from 1816-1864. They acquired Henry Clays Birmingham workshops who was Japanner to George III and the Prince of Wales and as their business progressed they opened a branch in West Halkin Street, Belgravia London in 1837 and then offices in Paris and New York.
