    This is a really fine quality Ladies antique Jewellery casket or work box.
    It dates to the late Georgian / Regency period, about 1820 and is beautifully made using choice veneers of rosewood and mahogany.

     
    Each of the sides and top are deeply framed with cross banded veneers of rosewood and inset with an 'egg and dart' border moulding, also of rosewood . The inner panels are of flame veneered mahogany which are themselves framed with a border of rosewood.
     
    It has it's original turned rosewood feet and turned wood ring handles all of which are in perfect order, and a cast brass period escutcheon.
     
    Inside the box has a pink padded velvet tray and ring holder compartment, and an inner compartment, also velvet lined.
    The frame of the box and tray is lined with marbled paper.
     
    The condition of all of the interior is excellent and quite possibly original.
     
    The hinges, (sound, original and undamaged) lock at right angles so that the lid can be opened and properly supported in the vertical position.
     
    Sadly, there is no key, but this is a really fine antique box of the choicest quality.
