A very majestic late 18th century Georgian fused silver on copper coffee pot.
Better known as Old Sheffield Plate and considered to be the most desirable and collectible form of silver plating.
A hand-made piece that has a serious Continental French first Empire appearance.
The sheer elegant lines combined with the applied French style gadroon beading is all the decoration this wonderul item requires.
Having a tin wash finish to the inside, an good sign this is an early piece made before c1890; Later pieces had a silver finish to both sides.
The swan-neck spout has been formed from two halves and the seam can only just be seen, this was made by a skilled artisan!
The lid is not hinged and bears a fixed finial that mirrors the shape of the pot.
Fitted with a carved wooden handle.
