The Falls of Ogwen, North Wales
Inscribed and dated 1840

Framed dimensions: 18 inches x 14.5 inches
It is almost certainly painted from an engraving of this scene which is featured in a 19th Century travel guide: “Wanderings and Excursions in North Wales” by Thomas Rosco (1836). The engraving, by William Radclyffe, was from an original study by the great landscape painter David Cox (1783 - 1859).
It features a mountainous landscape beauty spot in Snowdonia, North Wales and details a group of sightseers led by guides viewing the falls.
It is inscribed on the back 'Falls of the Ogwen into Nant Frangon North Wales 1840'.
Very good original condition. One small patch repair to the back. Lightly cleaned but some age related surface marks
The panoramic Ogwen falls is at the site where the Ogwen river emerges from the western end of Llyn Ogwen (Lake Ogwen) and begins its journey along the rugged Nant Ffrancon valley to the sea.
In the distance is the mountain Tryfan.
