On offer here is a fine set of 3 George III pierced sterling silver wine or decanter labels, with gadrooned borders, Port, Claret and Madeira, hallmarked for William Elliott, London, 1814. Shells and shell borders were a distinctive feature of William Elliott (see Salter Wine Labels page 154). Elliott seems mainly to have supplied the fashionable retailers Thomas Hamlet of Leicester Square (see Culme Directory of Gold and Silversmiths page 143). This set of 3, each of which measures 5 cms x 3.5 cms and which weigh in total about 54g, come in lovely, original condition; no damage. A nice, functional set of English Georgian antique silver that can still be used and enjoyed to-day.
