A late 19th century French dragon brooch, which can also be worn as a pendant as there are two small loops to attach a chain. This is an attractive model which seemed especially popular in France, as most dragons of this type I have seen have been French made. It is quite a light-weight example, being die-stamped rather than cast. It has a small pearl in its mouth, and a pearl drop. The wing-edges in white gold are set with tiny rough-cut diamonds. It bears French control marks for 18ct-the only French gold standard. The wing-span is 1 1/2 inches: 35 mm.
