    clipper ship work box

    Superb Walnut Work Box with a view of a Tea Clippers and sailing boats all round the box three of which fly the St.Georges flag with the top Clipper flying the British flag. The top & front of the box shows both clippers and their shore lines with wind mills, churches, houses and a castle turret.

     
    The interior of the sewing box is lined with blue paper with a embossed gold card decoration & a oval picture of a spray of flowers.
     
    Theories about these types of boxes.
     
    These type of boxes were made by Lighthouse Keepers who sold them directly to the sailing captains and owners of the ships.
     
    Also another theory is these were made by ships carpenters, for gifts for their loved ones!
     
    This sewing box comes with a fully working lock and tasseled key.
