Overview:
This is a rare and unusual Chinese Kangxi tea bowl and saucer set I’m releasing from my private collection. The set dates from around c1700, possibly earlier, and is exceptional. Both the tea bowl and saucer have moulded and shaped designs within the body of the porcelain and both have an unusual cut rim which has been brown stained. The tea bowl and saucer are decorated with panels in iron red with gilded highlights on an underglaze blue ground. The saucer has a central water landscape painted with a boat, buildings and a figure with a similar design painted to the inside of the tea bowl. The porcelain is very finely made with both foot rims left unglazed and finished with a slight blue tinge. Neither piece is marked. There is a growing interest in Oriental artifacts resulting in rising prices, making the tea bowl and saucer set an excellent long-term financial investment.
