    Antique Calamander Jewellery Box

Calamander jewellery box with a detailed monogram to the top, is brass bounded with cross banded edges highlighted by brass stringing. The sides have brass flush carrying handles and the front features a pronounced Bramah barrel lock.

The interior is lined with a deep blue velvet and features two removable trays with black leather lined dividers. The top tray has plenty of compartments giving lots of room for storing all kinds of jewellery including a section for earrings, rings & cufflinks. The underneath has two compartments for those large items of jewellery.
Once these two tray have been removed the reveal two small drawers at the bottom of the box.

Inside the lid is a mirror that can be release by pressing a brass catch at the top inside edge of the lid just underneath the lock catch. The mirror can be clipped back in facing outwards if desired.

This coromandel jewellery box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.

We believe this box to made by D.Edwards as it shows certain features used by the company at the time, their famous concealed hinge is a big indication, quality of the veneers and sheer quality through out the Jewellery box.

    D. Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square, London, famous makers of Writing & Dressing cases to the Royal Family and inventor of the patent military traveling cases.

    Circa: 1860
