A 19th century Victorian burr walnut and gilt metal mounted folding book slide. The book slide has high quality ceramic panels at each end, the brass mounts at each end are marked "Self Closing Bookslide 12632" and "Betjemann's Patent 12632". The ceramic panels on the folding book supports depict a pair of winged cherubs and each tile has a gilt brass rope twist design frame. In the centre of the book slide is a small retailer's label for W & J Milne 126 Princes St Edinburgh. The book slide is of exceptional quality and condition and made from the finest materials though it does not self-close anymore. The books in the photographs are not included.
