Brass fire fender Art Nouveau, 1900`s ca, French.
Thoroughly cleaned respecting the original patina.
This quality cast solid brass fire fender is decorative with its undulating curves and design elements from the earlier baroque period. In this example the free flowing form design is pared down and from the Art Nouveau period.
At the centre there is a dramatic decorative cartouche with exaggerated leaf motives. On either side of this there are two even more elaborate designs containing two cherubs around a pearl-like form. Characteristic of baroque design there is exuberant swirls alongside areas of dramatic void.
Each corner is decorated with a tall cabriolet form topped with a finial. The fender turns inwards and on each side there is another baroque crest. It is from this angle that the detailed internal side can be appreciated and indicative of quality.
At the bottom there is a stepped plinth base and at the top it is finished with a fluted undulating bar.
This brass fender has a warm antique patina built up over time. The components are intact & secure. There are a few minor dents as would be expected for this age.
