This is an original billiard table iron made by the firm of 'Thurston of London' c1880 in solid cast iron & struck with the lettering of their name. These flat irons were originally used to smooth the cloth of billiard tables in order to improve the speed of response, and were heated by placing on a stove or gas ring. Great care had to be exercised to avoid overheating and subsequent scorching of the cloth.
They make a great doorstop!
