Burr Walnut Sterling Silver Vanity Box with brass edging and escutcheons, hallmarked Birmingham 1871.
The lid of the Antique Dressing Box is lined with a blue ruched velvet, this springs forward to reveal a reversible mirror & letter envelope for storing letters.
The interior contains ten beautiful glass & silver engraved bottles and oblong toiletry containers all with star cut bases and silver plate lids, all are beautifully engraved. The oblong containers are oval shaped as opposed to the more common square shape. The glass bottles and toiletry containers are all in good condition with no breaks or cracks. A lift out tray is in the centre on which there is a set of accoutrements with Mother of Pearl handles, they include: A single pair of Scissors, Corkscrew, tweezers, sewing hook, and file. The main part of the interior of the box lifts out to reveal further storage space beneath to store such items as brushes or combs.
This beautiful vanity box contains a jewellery drawer to the front, to access this you need to push the brass button in between the two hinges at the back of the box, the drawer springs forward revealing green velvet & silk lined compartments for storing jewellery and pocket watch.
