antique pair silverplated wine coolers by hawksworth, eyre & co 19th c

This is an exceptional pair of antique English silver plated wine coolers bythe renowned silversmithHawksworth, Eyre & Co of Sheffield, circa 1870 in date.

The wine coolers stand on circular pedestal bases with decorative Faustian masque handles and bodies which are masterfully embellished with grape vine decoration.Each cooler is fitted with a removable lid and liner and the lids are engraved with crests of a bull.Add some classicelegance to your home with this lovely decorative pair of coolers.Condition:In excellent condition. Hawksworth, Eyre & Co
was founded in 1833 by CharlesHawksworthand John Eyre as successors ofBlagden, Hodgson & Co. The first mark wasregistredin 1862. They were manufacturers and silversmiths of silver and silver plated objects.In the 19th Century they opened branches in London, Buenos Aires, Montreal and New York, an amazing accomplishment at that time.The partnership was dissolved in 1869 and the business was continued by JamesKebberlingBembridge, Thomas Hall and GeorgeWoofhouse. In the1870sthe firm was converted into a limited liability company under the styleHawksworth, Eyre & Co Ltd. Further marks were registered in 1900 & 1912. The firm went into liquidation in the1930s.
