    a sketch of a farmhouse

    England
    1854-1855
    31 x 23 cm

This sketch of a house and landscape bears a signature and a date. The signature appears to be “G Hemmings” though it might be something different.

I was able to find information about George Hemming Mason who apparently used different names from time to time. His life span (1818-1872) fits with the time mentioned on the page.

He was a British landscape painter of rural scenes. He spent several years in Italy painting these kinds of scenes and portraits of the English who lived in Italy. But his true love was painting rural scenes. It seems he was able to make a living and gain some respect in the artistic community. It is not certain that these sketches belong to him but they are characteristic of topics he liked to cover.

If there is interest, I will provide other details/information available prior to purchase.
