You are viewing a gorgeous large bronze casting of lady justice, replete with scales and sword, plus the blind as we all know in an ideal world justice is blind. It's a famous work, as seen on many courthouses up and down the country in the UK and this is a delightful rendition.
The casting is superb with a wonderful patina and at over four feet tall this is an impressive work and would make for a great collectors piece for your home collection. It is offered in great condition and we will ship to anywhere in the world. We bought this from a dealer on London's Portobello Road.
Lady Justice (Iustitia, the Roman Goddess of Justice and sometimes, simply "Justice") is an allegorical personification of the moral force that underlies the legal system. Since the Renaissance, Justitia has frequently been depicted as a bare-breasted woman carrying a sword and scales, and sometimes wearing a blindfold. Her modern iconography, which frequently adorns courthouses and courtrooms, conflates the attributes of several goddesses who embodied Right Rule for Greeks and Romans, blending Roman blindfolded Fortuna with Hellenistic Greek Tyche.
