Late Victorian or Edwardian in date, this Clerks Desk has been made in mahogany and features striped veneers to the top of mahogany and satin beech. It has nicely shaped pigeon holes within and pen slots to the top.
Victorian Clerks Desks were generally quite plain and utilitarian, used mostly in back room offices, but this one is particularly nicely made and finished, with attention to appearance and detail. It is more likely to have been intended for use in the public domain - perhaps a hotel reception or shop.
It would have been screwed onto a work surface or counter.
It is in excellent condition though it has lost it's lock catch.
