    Antique 19th Century Andirons in Gilt Bronze, Signed by Ferdinand Barbedienne

    We present you with this beautiful pair of large andirons with their gilded bronze bar. They exemplify the exuberant Napoleon III style and they originate from the late 19th century. They are signed by the renowned French bronze artisan, metalworker and manufacturer Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Impeccably preserved, they boast superior craftsmanship, characterised by intricate detailing and a refined gilded finish. These andirons are perfectly suited for an ornate fireplace of a château.Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892) was a prominent French metalworker and founder celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the world of bronze artistry during the 19th century. Born in Paris, Barbedienne established his foundry in 1838, specialising in the production of high-quality bronze sculptures, furniture, and decorative arts. Renowned for his collaborations with renowned artists of his time, including Antoine-Louis Barye and Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, Barbedienne earned widespread acclaim for his impeccable craftsmanship and innovative casting techniques. His work was prominently showcased at international exhibitions, earning him numerous accolades, including the Legion of Honour. The legacy of Ferdinand Barbedienne endures through the exquisite and enduring bronze pieces bearing his name, exemplifying a pinnacle of artistic achievement during the 19th century.
