Attributed to Frederik Martin Sørvig (born January 1, 1823, in Bergen, died December 29, 1892, in the same place) created this nice and charming painting of the old city harbor of Bergen, Norway. He was one of the most famous Norwegian marine painters. The painting comes in its original gilded frame, which was regilded in 2022, and the painting itself has been cleaned. Subtly conveys the atmosphere of a hot summer day, where the warm, Russian sun shines along the banks of the river with the aromas of herbs and the songs of larks. Time has stopped, thanks to the stone and sedge bush - the static scenes of the foreground. Behind them, the distance of a calm river unfolds with a light swell of blown wind. A shepherd and his flock are resting on the shore near a tree. But the semantic diagonal runs tangentially from the boulder on the left to the tree and to the church in the distance. Alexander Rizzoni. Genre scene Playing with cats. For all the seeming mercy of the plot, the poor boy playing with cats, the picture contains a layer of social criticism, without which Russian realism cannot do. The simple amusements of poor adolescence are the main theme of the work. Of the available entertainment, only playing with cats in the dust of an empty basement of a greengrocer`s shop remained. An Italian youth hides a bunch of turnips behind his back, with which he teases a cat sitting on a settled barrel. A meager light seeps in through the cobwebs of the window. But the unsophisticated cheerfulness, the positive temperament of youth, the unaccountable joy of life - take their toll. They illuminate the surrounding hardships, give meaning to life and value to being, the detached contemplation of which the artist offers.
