#10181 a victorian red morocco leather dispatch box ‘the chief justice’

A Victorian Red Morocco Leather Despatch Box C1870, the bevelled top with central leather handle is embossed with the initials VR flanking Queen Victoria's crown and with the title 'THE CHIEF JUSTICE'. Also with a silvered ring carrying handle on one side. The working Bramah lock retains its original key. The interior is original with its raised sides and original emerald green velvet lining and is in good condition.

The Lord Chief Justice is the Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales. They are also the President of the Courts of England and Wales and responsible for representing the views of the judiciary to Parliament and the Government.
This box would have probably been the property of:
Sir Alexander Cockburn Baronet The Chief Justice from 1859 to 1880
or
Lord Coleridge The Chief Justice from 1880 to 1894.
