The marquise cut has a romantic history; In France during the eighteenth century, King Luis XV commissioned that a diamond be cut in a way that would resemble the lips of the Marquise de Pompadour, who was his chief mistress. This is where the name of the marquise cut came from, and this amethyst is a stunning example of it.
The sparkling head of this ring is framed by sleek, simplistic shoulders and a plain yellow gold band. To the interior of the band sits the hallmark, telling us this ring was crafted in 9ct gold in the year 1989 and bears the iconic leopard's head of the Assay Office of London.
