This mid-to-late Victorian-era ring holds five incredible fancy colour yellow diamonds of a wonderful tone and with fantastic brilliance. Each stone is evenly matched in colour, striking in their warmth and sparkle, with the openness of the old mine cut the diamonds have been fashioned into showing their clarity with only very slight inclusions. The yellow diamonds are claw set in a line, graduating down in size from the central stone, complemented wonderfully by the 18ct yellow gold settings they are held by.
The late Victorian era was when the first recorded yellow diamond was found, and after its discovery in 1867 and the discovery of a huge rough diamond in 1878 (that later became the Tiffany Yellow Diamond), they were introduced to the market. Due to their rarity and scarcity, they were reserved for higher-end Victorian pieces, as they had a significantly higher price point than other popular yellow stones such as citrine and yellow sapphires, along with their unique adamantine lustre.
The sparkling head of the ring is framed by simple shoulders, slimming into a plain, yellow gold band to a polished finish. Inside the band are the remnants of a hallmark that has worn away over time; Now only the crown stamp and '18' remain visible, though this ring has been assessed as circa mid to late Victorian era, characteristic of this time period in craft and design.
