This fantastic Victorian ring, circa 1878-1895, is of a sleek and simplistic design with a stunning pop of colour. It holds three mid-red rubies, round mixed cut and glowing with rich colour and lustre. Spacing the three rubies are two old-cut diamonds. The diamonds catch the light perfectly, with each facet gleaming. They are old European cut, a cut made for beauty and character rather than brilliance, but regardless, these diamonds dance under any light, drawing the eye. The stones graduate down in size slightly from the central ruby, tapering to match the boat-shaped setting in which they are grain set. The head of this ring leads to a yellow-gold D-profile band with a plain, polished finish.
Inside the band we see a clear hallmark, the stamps still crisp despite being over 130 years old; this is a ring that has been cared for lovingly and remains in good antique condition, ready for its next home. The hallmark features the iconic anchor, indicating this ring was stamped in Birmingham as 18ct gold. The letter stamp itself is tricky to distinguish - it is either 'd', 'o' or 'v', putting this ring in the time period running between 1878 and 1895, when Queen Victoria was starting to near the end of her reign. The tone of the gold itself is rich and buttery, offsetting the bright and brilliant stones perfectly. A fantastic ring to stack, thanks to its flat, even edges; it could be worn with other pieces or alone. This ring would make a wonderful wedding band for those wanting extra sparkle, or a fabulous addition to a jewellery collection for everyday wear.
