the antique edwardian 1909 pale blue sapphire and diamond three stone ring

This ring, holding a stunning pale blue oval mixed-cut sapphire at its heart, is a wonderful example of typical Edwardian style. In a short era when extravagance and luxury were the height of fashion for those who had the means to partake, scrolling detail and intricate lace-like engraving and patterns were incredibly popular, with King Edward VII on the throne and his love of luxury and excess setting the tone. The details of the era are said to be inspired heavily by Rococo design and 18th-century grandeur, as can be seen here in this ring's scrollwork head with beaded detailing.
The sapphire in this ring, pale blue and weighing 0.07ct, is an oval mixed cut, slightly elongated and grain set within a delicate kite-shaped setting. The geometric setting has a subtle yet effective lined border, pointing us toward a grain-set rose cut diamond flanking either side of the central stone. The diamond adds extra sparkle to this ring, a small yet effective detail leading us to the engraved scrollwork shoulders that join to a plain, polished rose gold band.
Inside the band sits the hallmark - hallmarked for 18ct gold in 1909/1910, right at the end of the Edwardian era. This ring was hallmarked by the Assay Office of Chester, which closed in August 1962 after declining hallmarking volumes made it financially unsustainable after 276 years of being in operation. A delicate, dainty ring, slim and comfortable to wear.
