the antique edwardian 1904 sapphire and rose cut diamond triple row ring

An early Edwardian-era ring studded with mid-blue sapphires and rose-cut diamonds, set in a three-row cluster design. Six round mixed-cut sapphires in a beautiful mid-blue colour sit in the central row, grain-set in a straight line, all uniform in size and in square-shaped settings. The sapphires are only lightly included with very fine silk and come alive when the light hits, their hand-cut facets shining wonderfully. A row of five rose-cut diamonds sits above and below the sapphires, the stones complementing each other beautifully. The diamonds are in the range of F-J colour, with a slight warmth typical of antique diamonds, giving this ring lots of personality and charm. The diamonds are grain and claw set, nestled in an open gallery head.
Rose cut diamonds have a flat base and a softly domed top covered in triangular facets, giving them a delicate glow, designed to sparkle under candlelight. Rather than the intense sparkle of a modern brilliant, they reflect light in gentle flashes. The romantic and irregular cuts of the stones make each individually captivating and wholly unique. Although this ring is from the Edwardian era, this cut was most popular in the Georgian era, before old cut diamonds and brilliant cut diamonds fell into favour.
The head of this ring is framed by intricate shoulders, complete with scrollwork detailing that slims with the shoulders into an 18ct yellow gold band with a plain, polished finish. The 18ct gold band has a buttery, rich yellow tone to it and to the band's interior sits a clear hallmark and a maker's mark. The maker's mark is no longer easily legible, worn away over time. The hallmark, however, remains easy to read, telling us that this ring was hallmarked by the Assay Office of Birmingham for 18ct gold in 1904/1905.
