A fantastic Victorian ring, featuring the combination of purple almandine garnets and split seed pearls, contrasting each other beautifully. At the centre of the ring's head sits a stunning pair of oval mixed-cut garnets, beautifully vivid and captivating in their pinkish purple colour, one claw set above the other. Spacing the further two garnets are greyish and creamish white split seed pearls with a wonderful ethereal lustre, bringing lightness and contrast to the design, rub-over set and surrounded by light metal bead detailing that embellishes the head. The design is terminated by a further garnet and pearl, and the head is framed with intricate detailing as the rose gold head scrolls and swirls.
The shoulders are as interesting as the ring's head, with intricate engraving that also spans the band, though it has been worn slightly over the years of loving wear to be more subtle. Inside the band, a clear hallmark for 12ct gold, a fineness abolished in 1932 and replaced by 14ct gold, making this piece even richer in its history and rarity. The Assay Office of Birmingham's anchor stamp sits proudly next to the date letter a, telling us that this piece is circa 1875.
A beautiful piece for day or night, rich in history and perfect for those who want a subtle pop of colour.
