Inkwell Catherine II’s Beloved Dog. Captured the Queen’s beloved Italian Greyhound resting on precious pillow.The dog, lying on its paws, hugs the plane of the pillow in an arc, leaving room for ink covers. The richness of color and the realism of the figure add truthfulness and luxury to this composition. Catherine the Great’s lure and virtues connecting reality and history.Stamp: JP literal corresponding to the stigma of the porcelain manufactory Jacob Petit approx. 1840The model was originally commissioned by Meissen Catherine II to honor her late beloved dog, Lisetta.Johann Joachim Kendler created a model from a drawing in June 1766.In his report, he wrote: I modeled a large dog according to a drawing sent from Moscow, carefully following all the details. The dog lies on a 21-inch-long stuffed pillow that looks like it is made of velvet. The pillow is as if embroidered with gold and decorated with gold trim in the form of tassels at the four corners. ”Meissen and other factories continued to produce the model until the end of the 19th century. Lissetta is also marked on the snuffbox of Johan Scharf at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
