Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lyon, Jean Thomas began exhibiting his works as early as 1946. Following in the footsteps of the great painters of modernity, his early paintings echo Thomass biggest influences, namely Fernand Léger and Matisse. Some articles published about him discuss the assertion of a true artistic personality, comparing him to his contemporaries: Bernard Buffet, Aizpiri, Krol, Martinet, Patrix etc. From 1955 onwards, Jean Thomas focused primarily on landscape painting, through a precise study of light and great pictorial mastery. His works bear witness to a trend: the realistic post-war landscapes. As a professional painter, he exhibited his works on numerous occasions, most notably at the Art Gallery of Place Beauvau and at the Tournelle Gallery in Paris. In total, he participated in over a hundred exhibitions in France and abroad.Enclosed in a white frame, this painting was completed by Jean Thomas on the 9th of June 1984. Signed in the bottom right corner. Width: 81cm, Height: 65cm, Depth: 3cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12461

The child, at the center of the composition, is dressed in an immaculate white tunic that delicately falls over their shoulders and stops just above their knees. The simplicity of the tunic, devoid of excessive ornamentation, highlights the purity and innocence of childhood while adding a touch of grace and lightness to the scene. In their right hand, the child firmly holds a tambourine stick. This detail not only evokes an atmosphere of play and cheerfulness but also subtly alludes to antiquity, dear to artists of the Empire who often sought to blend classicism and modernity. The childs posture, captured in mid-motion, demonstrates a liveliness and spontaneity that make the scene even more authentic and touching. The child appears to walk confidently on a panther skin carefully laid out under their feet. The spotted and luxuriant texture of the skin sharply contrasts with the bright whiteness of the tunic, creating an interesting and sophisticated visual interplay. This luxurious element recalls the opulence and grandeur of the Empire era, where every detail is meticulously designed to evoke magnificence and splendor. The background of the painting is treated with artistic sensitivity that highlights the main subject without distracting from it. Soft shades and harmonious tones envelop the scene, creating a soothing and elegant atmosphere. The light seems to gently caress the childs features, accentuating the volumes and adding an almost tangible dimension to this timeless representation.Although unsigned, this painting from the Empire era delicately and finely captures a scene imbued with innocence and beauty. The attention to detail, mastery of textures and contrasts, and balanced composition testify to the artistic skill of the painters of that time, while offering a work full of charm and majesty.Dimensions with frame: 90x115 cm. This exquisite and large still life oil-on-canvas painting portrays an abundant range of food items carefully arranged on a table against a dark backdrop. At the center, a large fish rests on a red dish, surrounded by a brass container filled with white asparagus and leafy greens. To the left, a white pie sits near pieces of bread, an orange, and a knife, while to the right, a bowl of red berries is placed next to a tall goblet and a small group of fish and peeled shrimp as well as lemons and more herring. The central symbol in this painting being fish is considered a symbol of the origin of life in accordance with the traditional cosmogonic concepts of most peoples of the Earth; life originated from water. During ritual worships, fish dishes, as well as fish sacrifices were presented to all gods of the underworld and the moon goddesses of water, love and fertility. The artist of this piece uses predominantly warm colours and dramatic lighting from the right side to highlight the textures and surfaces of the items, With its very generous dimensions, measuring 152.3 in width and 112cm in height, this painting would make a fantastic and eye-catching centre piece of any luxurious and large space such as a living room or a hallway. This magnificent oil painting on wood from the late 19th century, signed by the artist D. Fristany, depicts a fishing trip in Brittany in the early hours of the morning. In the foreground, a small boat still moored is preparing to leave, with a group of men busy with nets and fish pots.Beyond it, a large two-masted hourque emerges from the harbour, with more boats already in the distance, setting sail. You can feel the swell on the sea and the rising wind, the sky seems to be darkening with grey clouds, and you can see the carefully worked chiaroscuro/obscuro, which gives the painting great strength and realism. The play of light on the moor to the left and in the foreground also helps to create a pointed perspective. This is a typical turn-of-the-century fishing scene in Brittany, both in terms of the types of boats depicted and the fishermens clothing. The artist must have painted it on the spot, as it exudes great vivacity and very precise detail, particularly on the boats. The painting is in its original frame, with a copper plate bearing the artists name and the title of the painting in old French ‘Pescheurs breton’.Size Without frame : 63x75 cmWith frame : 74x86 cm Width: 86cm, Height: 74cm, Depth: 5cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12414

This painting is exceptional in both technique and execution, and pays tribute to one of the great masters of the Dutch Golden Age, Willmen Kalf (1619-1993).The artist Sie G, usually known for his contemporary works in the style of hyperrealism, was inspired by the Dutch painters 1660 Still Life with Aquamanile, Fruit and Nautilus Cup (see last photo). His technical skill in this genre painting is breathtakingly precise, from the cracks in the enamel and the reflections on the porcelain, the ridged, pearly surface of the nautilus conch shell, the folds and texture of the Persian carpet, to the bloom on the black grape cluster, the peeled rind of the lemon and the shiny seeds of the pomegranate; everything is there to remind us of the fragility of the elements.Sie G has also added depth to this work, using a dark background against which a half-lit cassolette stands out in the background, and making use of the light coming from the left to reflect on the elements of this composition. This painting is a true technical feat and a demonstration of the virtuosity of painter Sie G, a trained restorer who has worked with the most prestigious European museums and knows how to handle the old skills of the great masters. The painting is signed in the lower left-hand corner with the artists pseudonym Sie G, and on the back he has inscribed the title of the painting and signed it with his real name Gerasimov. The genre of the still life, inherited from Dutch painting in the 16th and 17th centuries, endures to this day, expressing an aesthetic quest as well as a spiritual or moral reflection that continues to move and enthrall lovers and collectors of ancient and contemporary art.DimensionsWith frameHeight 110 cmWidth 90 cmWithout frameHeight 90 cmWidth 70 cm Width: 90cm, Height: 109cm, Depth: 5cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12394

This richly narrated painting probably takes us back to a hunting scene at court in the late 17th or early 18th century. In the left foreground, two men on horseback are engaged in a lively conversation, while in the distance, behind them, we see a town with prominent bell towers, typical of the Flemish School of this period. On the right, we can also make out several successive shots: what appears to be a dead tree in the foreground, then a dog, then a man who seems to be gutting game, followed by another who is skinning a beast on the ground near a tent on the right, and finally the crowd of gathered soldiers in the background. In the very last shot, we can make out a large rocky massif lost in the sky and clouds. This painting offers a fascinatingly detailed composition, featuring hunters, their horses and a dense, animated landscape. The many characters in action around a wilderness camp add dynamism and depth to the overall picture. Indeed, the succession of shots is remarkable, with elements that follow one another and give real depth to this medium-format painting. The precision of the brushstrokes, almost sketches, and the intensity of the chiaroscuro effects testify to rigorous graphic preparation and a refined, elaborate pictorial approach. In this painting, a remarkable ability to assimilate the heritage of the Flemish tradition is immediately apparent, perceptible through the chromatic palette deployed and a clear predilection for drawing. The latter highlights both the richness of detail and the methodical, rational organization of each figure or object depicted. The painting has been carefully framed by DELF, a company renowned for its expertise. Portrait of a high-ranking officer with arms crossed over his chest and three-quarter view in detailed military garb: fringed silk epaulets, gold buttons, red cuffs. The attention to detail is very meticulous indeed, with each element treated with great realism, particularly the work on the hands, epaulets and eyes. The portrait is painted on an oval stretcher, framed on a red velvet background in a rectangular gilded wood frame. The military portrait is a particular genre that appeared in the 16th century and developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. This type of representation combines portrait and history painting. The portrait is a genre that has been around since Antiquity, and an attribute of power for great men, the aim being to show the power of the commissioner as well as his personality. The portrait painter most often creates a commissioned work, depicting the notable in all his glory. At first, portrait paintings celebrated the powerful, but as time went on, the bourgeoisie began to embrace this art form and were regularly portrayed.Willem Geets (1838-1919) was an artist born and died in Mechelen, Belgium.A student at the Académie de Malines and the Académie dAnvers, he continued his studies, notably with Nicaise De Keyser. He was appointed director of the Académie de Malines. In 1877, he won a medal in Ghent and in 1893, an honorable mention in Paris. In addition to his paintings, Geets produced tapestry cartoons for the Braquenié manufactory, including those for the Guilds tapestries in the Gothic Hall of the Brussels City Hall (these cartoons, for which members of the Braquenié family posed, are exhibited in the Great Hall of the Brussels Museum of Art and History) and those for the Senate tapestries in Brussels.Oval canvas dimension :Height 76 cmWidht 59 cmDepth 4 cm Width: 107cm, Height: 117cm, Depth: 9cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12366

An 19th-century oil on canvas depicting an Italian landscape characterized by a broad view of hills and mountains in the distance and a river whose winding course stretches to the front of the painting. This background is dotted with small hamlets and villages, whose architecture can only be guessed at.In the foreground, the picture has been deliberately separated at its center by a very large tree, which divides the composition in two: on the left are the ancient ruins of an ancient temple and small human figures (two porters and a traveler on a donkey), while on the right are two high-ranking women in deep conversation and a servant who appears to be washing sheets on a stone bridge, under whose arches we can make out waterfalls. This small-format painting is full of details and references that will be interesting to decipher. This porcelain painting in the KPM style dates from the 19th century, and depicts the famous painting Madame Vigée Le Brun and her daughter by French painter Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun in 1789.This self-portrait was painted for Charles Claude Flahaut de La Billarderie, comte dAngiviller, director of the kings buildings.Seized during the French Revolution, the work is now housed in the Musée du Louvre, Paris. The very affectionate embrace between mother and daughter is perfectly faithful to the original work, and from a technical point of view, the colors, shading and finesse of the line are remarkable.A charming, old-fashioned object, easy to place at home in a bookcase, on a dressing table or to add charm to a lost space! This sensual painting depicts a silk-turbaned Sybille carrying a bowl of fruit (peaches and grapes) and richly dressed in a light white linen chemise, a luxurious fuchsia-pink tunic and a royal-blue cape. She is adorned with gold jewels and precious stones. In a way, its fair to say that this richness contrasts with her ingenuous, gentle gaze: her radiant youth is as unsettling as her frontal, piercing gaze. Her graceful, serene face contributes to the paintings peaceful aspect. This painting is attributed to an artist who admired the Dominiquin and the Guerchin. Indeed, the two Italian painters produced numerous versions of these women, whose silk turbans adorned with gold and precious stones were a reminder of their oriental origins, and who were destined to prophesy the coming of Christ. We can also see a fantasy portrait of a woman in which the painter demonstrates his mastery of chiaroscuro, with contrasts softened by his knowledge of Venetian painting.Painting without frame:Width 90 cm x height 102 cm Width: 90cm, Height: 102cm, Depth: 6cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12363

This highly theatrical painting depicts a group of servants in the kitchen, two women and two men gathered around a table. The group is highlighted by a halo of light; behind them on the wall we can make out hanging knives, to the left a teapot, on the floor a large pot and a basket of vegetables, and to the right we can make out a staircase leading up to the upper floors. The scene is very lively and dynamic: smiling women busy with their daily chores are at the heart of this depiction. The seated woman holds what appears to be a newspaper in one hand and points to the right with the other, inviting her companions and the viewer to follow suit. This depiction of the working class at the end of the 18th century expresses the ideas and revolutionary winds then blowing through France. An intriguing and daring painting, as much for its subject as for its technique, with touches of vivid color contrasting with a darker background and a lovely work of chiaroscuro. This rare work will add an original touch to your collection and a French touch to your home! This narrative-rich 18th-century painting most likely transports us to a lively hunting scene featuring noble men and women, killers and a horde of dogs hunting game. This painting offers a highly detailed composition, featuring the hunters, their horses and a steep, mountainside landscape that opens onto a deep perspective. The lord and his wife are on horseback in the foreground, and are accompanied by a number of highly detailed figures in full activity, including beaters, villagers, servants and dogs. On the right, a thatched cottage and a peasant woman look out over the scene. In the background, a village citadel rises up: the watchtower defends the entrance to the village on the side of a ravine, linked to the foreground by a narrow arched bridge, and the church steeple can be seen in the distance among the roofs of the village houses. Finally, in the last shot, a mountain landscape bathed in majestic blue and pink skies crowns this hunting scene. The framing is well mastered and dynamic: indeed, the succession of shots is remarkable, with strong narrative elements that give real depth to this vivid painting.Beautifully framed in rosewood and blackened pearwood, the painting has been cleaned, restored and mounted on canvas by our professional restoration workshop. This monumental architectural painting depicts a stone fountain topped by a large bronze basin, from which an impressive floral arrangement unfurls. The ground is strewn with grapes, peaches and a pumpkin, symbolizing fertility and abundance. In the background, a décor of ancient ruins unfolds, with classical architectural elements lending an enigmatic atmosphere to this work. Finally, in the last shot, a wooded landscape with cypress trees reminiscent of Tuscany and a mountain in the distance. Above this luxuriant scene, a blue sky dotted with clouds ranging from grey to golden unfolds and illuminates the entire scene.Stylistically, this painting is in line with certain Italian still lifes of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It probably comes from the workshop of an Italian master who understood the appeal of Dutch and Flemish works such as those by the artist Gaspar Pieter Verbruggen Le Jeune (1664-1730). One of these masters was Orsola Maddalena Caccia (1596-1676), considered a pioneer of still-life painting in Italy. In its pictorial style and choice of subject, the painting is also reminiscent of the works of Neapolitan painter Gasparo Lopez dei Fiori, who distinguished himself by his often redundant compositions of flowers, most often placed outdoors, in elaborate contexts rich in naturalistic and architectural elements. This majestic painting comes from the private collection of a renowned family, and was displayed in one of the familys villas in Cannes on the Côte dAzur in France. The painting is presented in a 19th-century gilded wooden frame, a fitting piece to adorn large walls: a classic, elegant setting that we never tire of admiring.Dimensions of unframed canvas :Height : 123 cmWidth : 187 cm Width: 205cm, Height: 140cm, Depth: 6cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Condition of use, Material: Oil, ID: 12346
