A late 19th century hand crafted bust of a tribal African man, carved from one large solid piece of naturally occuring grey soapstone.
This fine large native sculpture has been produced after many hours of intense and careful hand carving, and is an extremely heavy piece weighing in at 13.3Kg.
The sculpture is a rare one off individually crafted example, generally in good condition for the age, and has captured the charactor and personality of the sitter in good detail, achieving depth and realism in the evenly chisselled hair.
The finish has a natural greyish marblised finsh and has a fairly smooth unbroken surface, showing afew signs of brownish wide veins of oxidised areas
