    1978 ferrari 308 gtb

The Ferrari 308 GTB was the successor to the Dino 308 GT4. When the car was first spotted testing in Italy, the ‘Prancing Horse’ magazine in the US called the GTB ‘a very new Dino’ - but the production car was a Ferrari through-and-through.

The engine, driveline, suspension, steering and brakes are shared with the GT4, but to style the car, Ferrari returned to Pininfarina rather than partner with Bertone again. The svelte lines penned by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina remain as alluring today as they were when first revealed in 1975.

This particular 308 GTB, chassis s/n 25023 was built in 1978, originally finished in silver (Argento Auteuil) over red (Rosso) hide. It was repainted in 1986 to its current red (Rosso Corsa) colour, and was retrimmed in cream (Crema) hide, with red piping and red carpets. The car has electric windows, air-conditioning and 16-inch, Speedline split-rim alloy wheels.

The file that accompanies this superb 308 GTB comprises a substantial number of invoices and certificates to authenticate the car’s excellent condition and history, including records of an eight-year period of ownership with the renowned pop music producer, Pete Waterman.

After spending the last four years in Australia, the car returned to the UK in August. It has driven less than 100 miles since its last annual service, and has a documented mileage of 51600 miles from new.

Just like its GT4 forebear, the 308 GTB’s flexible 3.0-litre V8, space-frame chassis and independent suspension mean it can play the part of fast, comfortable cruiser as well as full-bodied Ferrari sports car.

However, the Ferrari 308 GTB is not merely a great sports car - it is also a terrific investment at the moment, with values currently rising every month. Call us now to discuss an inspection and test drive of this wonderful Berlinetta.
