A beautiful satinwood writing table by Miles and Edwards (1822-1844). (Stamp to drawer top reads Miles and Edwards 134 Oxford Street London (design number) 7738). All original table with twin blind opening drawers to the frieze and of superior quality as evidenced by the immaculate drawer shut lines and detailing to the legs and corners of the frieze. This table is of excellent proportions and is in fantastic condition. It has an earlier replacement matching leather writing surface that is in very good condition .
The history of the firm Miles and Edwards is recorded in The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers (1660-1840) (Pages 606 and 607) together with an impressive listing of their notable commissions including The British Ambassador to Paris and the Empress of Russia as well as a number of English Country Houses.
