good chinese export blue & white sander, kangxi

A good quality Chinese export cylindrical sander, decorated in underglaze blue, and dating from the late Kangxi or Yongzheng period c1720-1730. The side is decorated with a band of precious objects, vases, books and a number of tripod vessels on stands. The pierced top of the sander is decorated with further precious objects. Height 6.3cm (2.5") diameter 7.9cm (3.1”)

A sander was a European desk accessory. It would have been filled with fine sand and once a letter had been wrtten the sander would be used to sprinkle sand over the letter to dry the ink. Dating: Kangxi or Yongzheng 1720-1730Excellent, undamaged, condition. There is a short firing flaw near one of the holes in the top of sander - see images. No chips, cracks or restoration
