An extremely rare pair of early 19th century heavy cast brass and ornately decorated, ships swing- cradle candle holders.

Magnificent heavy cast brass candle holders, each weigh approximately a kilo and 26cm in height with a base circumference of 12cm and the pivotal swing cradle position 11cm from the base.

These extremely rare and unique candle holders would have been used on board ship, either standing upright on a table or mounted secured to the hull. The swing-cradle design enabled the candle when lit, to be kept in a safe upright position when in turbulent seas.

Although these candle holders carry no maker’s marks, they have that untouched age-old rich yellowish patina and ornate appearance and feel of being from a naval ship rather than merchant or civilian craft.

These fine examples of swing-cradle candle holders stand out from the norm and would enhance the décor of either office or home and make a good talking point.

These candlesticks would make an extremely sensible purchase especially for anyone looking for an excellent investment, or even a special gift. I certainly believe that it would be quite difficult to easily find another example of these candlesticks in original condition.
