Circa 1880. An unusual and stylish carved beech and upholstered armchair. The shaped and carved cresting rail with piercing, the upholstered back with pleating and deep buttoning, in a moulded frame supporting two stylish arms with well carved terminals, pierced swags and tails beneath and reeding on the side. The chair seat is upholstered with a removable squab cushion in similar fabric, the shaped seat rail on all sides with serpentine on the front with foliate carving and reeding. The back legs are elegant cabriole legs with carving on the facings, the front legs are similar but more elaborate with foliate carving and a lovely sweep finishing on a curled foot with a turned toe.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
