Circa 1870, Continental (probably French) carved oak cabinet bookcase, the top section with a stylish carved cushioned cornice with carved lion masks at the front with iron rings in their mouths. Beneath this is a single glazed door with elaborate carving and unusual wavy frame around the glass. There are carved pilasters on both sides with mythical figures and cherub faces. Below this is an upright section supported by two turned and fluted urns, and a carved section at the back. The base section has a single drawer at the front with a mythical face as the handle pull and lion mask handles either side, and again pilasters with carved faces beneath. In the centre is a door with fielded panels and a carved face in the centre, which opens to reveal a single adjustable shelf. There is a carved apron with an elaborate plinth, and fielded panels on the sides. All standing on squat feet. Excellent colour and in good condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
