This stunning clock was made towards the end of the nineteenth century - around 1880. It was made in France for the English market. The clock was made by Japy Freres, one of France's most celebrated and award-winning makers. They exhibited at many exhibitions, winning a host of medals. Japy outsourced some movement components so that one person for instance would be expert at blueing screws. The parts would then be assembled with each piece made by the very best craftsman to get an exceptional finish. Japy himself would examine every finished piece and grade it. This clock is marked 'A1', the highest possible grade. The clock is profusely decorated in champleve enamels with no less than 19 enameled panels - all in excellent condition. The clock, remarkably, retains its original gilding and original giltwood stand. The eight-day movement is superbly made and strikes the hours and half hours on a gong. You will never see a better clock of this type.
