    ITEM 1510 CONDITION
Items are in damaged condition with weathered paint where it was originally painted black, visible chips, and cracks due to age, handling, and usage.

    ITEM 1510 DESCRIPTION
A pair of African female figures attributed to the African Akan/Fante People of West Africa (Ghana).

Both female figures appear to be identical in every characteristic except for the missing belt on one of the female figures.

The belt and the necklaces appear to be gold metallic threads that have been braided.

The female figures are standing barefoot on a round pedestal base and a square pedestal base.

They are both wearing breechcloths; their arms are outstretched; and their fingers are evident.

The neck has rolls; a sign of beauty and prosperity.

The heads are large with a disc-shaped hairstyle.

The facial features; large top-curved eyes, hooked nose, and a full mouth; the ears with holes are evident and may have had ear bobs made of gold metallic threads.

There are double Xs' on the back of the head; the front of the head has spaced geometric patterns.

While the figure is called Akua'ba (Akua's child), it is clearly not meant to resemble a child.

The figure is always female since Akan culture is matrilineal.

Most Akua'ba figures are abstract, however, the figures have become marketable tourist items, and have been crafted for tourists.

They have been taken out of context, and cultural tastes might add beads and paint and be marketed as a universal symbol of Africa.

    Carvalho ABC LImited

My name is Marco Carvalho and I am the Sole Trader of Carvalho ABC Limited, a business I established in September 2022. After having worked for a decade in the antique industry for another business, I have now decided to sell my own stock that I built up during that period and from a previously private collection. I specialise in reselling antiques, books, and collectable items. Within those categories, I have items listed such as Ancient Civilisation Antiquities, Art, Chinese Snuff Bottles, General Antiques, and Visiting Card Cases to mention but a few. I cover a wide variety of antiques, books, and collectables; my range encompasses everything from affordable items that promote beginners and new collectors to those that satisfy the demands and tastes of the more mature and serious collector. I refer to auctioneers, and antique and art experts for the authenticity of my stock to advise me and my customers on their demands and needs, always ensuring confidence and provenance. My mission is to give a unique service to my customers and to ensure their satisfaction with the items that they purchase from me, with authenticity and quality. I always strive to serve better.
